Southern Youth Ballet was founded by Liz Buckland in 1996 to enable young dancers in the southern area of England to perform in cameo productions of full-length classical Ballets, and original works. Since then, the Company has presented The Nutcracker, Coppelia, La Fille mal Gardée, Aurora’s Wedding, Pineapple Pol, Tales of Beatrix Potter and original ballets including The House at Pooh Corner, which was danced at a gala performance at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, presented by Birmingham Royal Ballet.
SYB offers young ballet dancers the unique opportunity of performing in a full-length ballet accompanied by a full professional orchestra in a large theatre.
The Company is grateful to all teachers for their help and encouragement in giving permission for students to dance in these productions. Younger members of the Company have appeared twice with Northern Ballet Theatre in Great Expectations and Romeo and Juliet.
Since its formation in 1996, Southern Youth Ballet has been based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, Great Britain.
